Environmental Policy
Here at Anchor Aquatics we are committed to being green and saving precious resources.
We Reduce
We are very conscious about the availability of resources this planet can provide.
Our fish room electricity is supplied completely by a 4KW solar panel array for about 9 months each year.
All our fish need a constant supply of fresh water, and we carefully monitor water quality in our central systems. Water is trickled in at a low level for several hours each day.
This reduces electricity use for heating as the incoming water temperature hardly changes our tank overall temperature.
Our low energy LED Lights, and equipment are only running when absolutely necessary
Computers are switched off when not in use
Our water pumps are DC powered and very economical.
Thermostats are used in all aquariums, our central systems and to regulate air temperature.
In our office we are almost paperless. Our trade accounts, customer contacts and other transactions are all digital.
Doors & windows are kept shut to retain heat.
We Reuse
Waste water is used outdoors on all our fruit & veg. In the winter months we store this water ready for the following spring.
When supplies reach us from our fulfilment agent we reuse as much cardboard and packaging as possible. This is re - used to pack orders for despatch.
Magazines, leaflets and old office paper is shredded, this is also re-used for padding in boxes of fragile orders such as aquarium heaters.
Polystyrene boxes for fish are always reused and sent out again to clients
We Recycle
Anything we can’t reuse in our fishroom, office or storeroom is recycled at the local recycling centre. This includes:
Redundant electric cable from installation jobs
Any broken glass
Old and broken plastic
Non re-useable old cardboard
